Faster Goal Navigation with Global and Contextual Search

🎯 Goals

We are pleased to introduce a major enhancement to the Peoplebox goals experience β€” the new Goals Search feature. This release enables users to instantly discover goals and updates across cycles, teams, departments, and individuals through a combination of Global Search and Contextual Search.

Global Search: Company-Wide Goal Discovery

Users can now access all goals they have visibility into from the new Search tab on the Goals page. Key capabilities include:

  • Search across all cycles, statuses, and goal types.
  • Results grouped by cycle or quarter for easier navigation.
  • Pagination and β€œShow More” support for large datasets.
  • Optimized UI with fast loading states.

Contextual Search: Smart, Location-Based Filtering

Contextual Search automatically applies filters based on the user’s current page. Key advantages:

  • Department or owner filters are pre-applied.
  • Reduces manual filtering effort.
  • Enables immediate discovery of team or individual goals.

Intelligent Search Experience

The search interface is designed to help users find relevant goals faster. Features include:

  • Up to ten recent searches available for quick access.
  • Auto-complete suggestions based on previous queries.
  • Highlighted keyword matches for better clarity.
  • Clear indicators showing hidden goals when cycle filters are applied.

Actionable Search Results

Users can manage goals directly from the search results. Supported actions include:

  • Initiating check-ins
  • Updating progress
  • Accessing the goal details side drawer
  • Reviewing tags, ownership, and progress metrics (Note: Goal and KR creation is intentionally restricted within the search screen.)

Strict Access Control

All search results follow existing goal visibility rules. This ensures:

  • No private or restricted goals are exposed.
  • User access levels remain fully respected.

Why This Matters?

This release addresses major challenges faced by growing teams:

  • Difficulty locating goals across multiple cycles
  • Time-consuming navigation through hierarchies
  • Lack of a unified search experience
